What is horary astrology

Horary astrology (from the Latin hora - hour) is a classical applied branch of traditional astrology, dating back to the works of William Lilly, Guido Bonatti and ancient masters. Unlike natal astrology, a horary chart is built NOT at the moment of a person’s birth, but at the exact second and coordinates of the place when a specific question was formulated and fully understood by the astrologer or the questioner (querent). Horary is based on the Hermetic principle of synchronicity: the birth of a thought or problem in the human mind exactly corresponds to the geometric configuration of the planets on the celestial sphere. If the question is sincere and important, the card accurately describes the current state of affairs, the ulterior motives of those involved, and the most likely outcome of the situation.

Practical Guide

Algorithm for professional horary analysis

1. Checking the radicality of the card

Analysis of the suitability of the chart for judgment: the position of the Ascendant (not less than 3° and not more than 27°), the absence of Saturn in the 7th house and the position of the Moon.

2. Assignment of the querent’s significator

The questioner is represented by the ruler of the 1st house (Ascendant), planets in the 1st house and the Moon as a universal co-significator of feelings and the dynamics of the situation.

3. Determination of the house of question (quesit)

Choosing a house for the subject of the question: 2nd - personal finance, 7th - partner or opponent, 10th - career and status, 4th - real estate, 5th - children or investments.

4. Analysis of the connection between significators

Search for a converging Ptolemaic major aspect between the rulers of the 1st and target houses (conjunction, trine, sextile, square with reception).

5. Checking the Moon and Light Transmission

Studying the following aspects of the Moon before leaving the sign (progress), checking the status of “out of course” or the presence of transmission/collection of light by the third planet.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to ask a horary question several times in a row?

No. In tradition, a repeated question on the same topic (“asking the sky again”) is considered a manifestation of mistrust and makes the new card non-radical (unreadable). A repeated question is asked only if there is a radical change in external circumstances.

For what time should the chart be drawn: when the question came to the client or when the astrologer read it?

William Lilly's classic rule states: the chart is drawn at the moment and place when the astrologer has read and clearly understood the essence of the client's question.
